Hobart's Eastern Shore & Tasmania

About

How Shoreline News works

Shoreline News is an independent local news service for Hobart's Eastern Shore — Bellerive, Howrah, Lindisfarne, Rosny, Clarence, Lauderdale, Sorell, Cambridge and beyond — that zooms out to cover the wider Tasmania. We aim to make it easy to keep up with what's happening close to home.

We're automated, and we say so

Our stories are written with AI assistance by the "Shoreline News Desk." We believe in being upfront about that: every article carries an AI-assisted label and lists the sources it is based on. AI helps us watch a lot of local sources and turn them into clear, plain-English updates quickly — but it is a tool, and we take responsibility for what we publish.

Where our news comes from

We follow trusted, public and official Tasmanian sources and write original summaries that link back to the original reporting. You'll see the outlets credited at the foot of every story — places like ABC Hobart, the Eastern Shore Sun, Pulse Tasmania, the Hobart Observer, Clarence City Council, the Tasmanian Government, Tasmania Police and the Bureau of Meteorology. We are not affiliated with any of them. We summarise and point you to the source — we don't republish other people's work, and we encourage you to read the full story at the original outlet.

Accuracy, fairness and corrections

  • We report facts and attribute them to a named source.
  • Where a matter is before the courts or involves allegations, we report it strictly from official statements (for example, a Tasmania Police media release), we attribute the allegation, and we treat people as innocent unless a court finds otherwise.
  • If we can't stand a story up against a credible source, we don't run it.

We get things wrong sometimes — and when we do, we want to fix them fast. If you spot an error, or you're the subject of a story and want it reviewed or taken down, contact the desk and we'll respond promptly.

Why there's no comments section

Under Australian law a publisher can be responsible for comments posted by others. Rather than leave that unmoderated, we've chosen not to run comments. If you have something to add or a tip to share, send it to the desk instead.

Our sponsor

Shoreline News is proudly sponsored by SolarGenTas, a local, SAA-accredited Tasmanian solar, battery and EV-charging installer. Their sponsorship keeps this service running and free to read. Sponsorship does not influence our editorial decisions — which stories we cover, or how we report them. Sponsor content is always clearly labelled as such.
