The Bellerive Yacht Club (BYC) is set to commemorate a significant milestone, celebrating 100 years of operation with a series of events planned for October 2026. Established in 1926 to foster sailing activities and cater to the growing population of Clarence, the club has since grown to over 1,000 members, becoming a prominent fixture on Hobart’s Eastern Shore.

The main centenary celebrations are scheduled for the weekend of October 9 to 11. A highlight of these festivities will be the BYC Centenary Ball, taking place on Saturday, October 10. The club’s official Facebook page announced that the ball will feature live music from the band Inferno, a three-course dinner, and an evening of celebration. Tickets are priced at $125 per person, with a table of ten available for $1,000, and bookings are currently open via the club office.

In addition to the gala event, the club is releasing a commemorative book titled “Under the Yardarm: The History of the Bellerive Yacht Club.” Written by John Sargent and Penny Stewart, the publication captures the people, stories, sailing achievements, and memorable moments from the club’s inception in 1926 through to 2026. Pre-orders for the book are available at $50 until October 8, 2026, after which the price will increase to $55.

The centenary year has already seen other significant events, including the 2026 Banjo’s Shoreline Crown Series Bellerive Regatta, held from February 20 to 22, and the 2026 Tasmanian Women’s Keelboat Regatta on March 14. These events, hosted by the BYC, were part of the broader celebrations marking the club’s 100-year history.

From its humble beginnings in 1926, when a large shed was converted into its first clubhouse, the Bellerive Yacht Club has evolved into one of Tasmania’s premier boating locations. It boasts extensive facilities, including a 170-berth marina, a slipyard, and a clubhouse with two bars and a restaurant. The club actively organises a year-round sailing calendar, encompassing competitive and social events, and is responsible for the annual Bellerive Regatta.

The Eastern Shore Sun reported that the October weekend will also include a Centenary Dinner and a Sunday afternoon of activities, further cementing the club’s legacy of sailing, boating, friendship, and community involvement.
