The Eastern Shore’s cultural calendar hit a high note recently as the Clarence City Band presented its much-anticipated annual Gala Concert, “Journeys,” at Rosny College. The evening was a fair dinkum celebration of movement and melody, with the band, under the baton of long-serving conductor Maestro Eleanor Vance, guiding a packed house through an imaginative program spanning air, road, rail, and sea.

From the moment the first notes soared, it was clear this wasn’t just any concert; it was an experience. The “Air” segment kicked off with a stirring rendition of a classic aviation-themed march, its brass section mimicking the roar of engines and the woodwinds painting pictures of clouds. Audience members, many of whom are long-time supporters of the band, were visibly impressed by the precision and passion on display. One local, Brenda Patterson from Bellerive, remarked, “They really took us up there! You could almost feel the wind in your hair.”
