Clarence City Council has announced the launch of a new series of access and inclusion videos designed to assist people with disability in planning their visits to various Council facilities across the Eastern Shore. The initiative, unveiled on Monday, September 28, 2026, aims to provide detailed accessibility information before visitors arrive.
The videos were developed with direct input from individuals with lived experience of disability, ensuring practical and relevant information is conveyed. This project was delivered in partnership with the Clarence Disability Access and Inclusion Working Group.
Featured in the videos are key Eastern Shore locations, including the Howrah Community Centre, Kangaroo Bay Parklands, and Rosny Farm. The content highlights crucial accessibility features at these venues, such as designated disability parking spaces, automatic doors, accessible toilets equipped with braille and tactile signage, and wheelchair-accessible barbecues.
Beyond specific features, the videos also guide viewers on how to navigate to and enter the buildings, effectively use the facilities, and provide contact information for further enquiries or bookings. Members of the Clarence Disability Access and Inclusion Working Group, Nigel Saville, who uses a wheelchair, and John Stevens, who has a hearing impairment, both feature in the videos, offering firsthand perspectives.
According to members of the working group, the videos offer valuable new information about accessibility within Clarence and provide a clearer understanding of a venue’s physical environment, which is crucial for planning visits.
Clarence City Council stated that these videos represent one of many ways it is working with people with disability to enhance the accessibility and inclusivity of its services, facilities, and information. The Council emphasised that access and inclusion for people with disability remain a priority, and it will continue to build upon its existing Access and Inclusion Plan in the years ahead.
Eastern Shore residents and visitors can view the new access and inclusion videos on the City of Clarence website.
