Clarence City Council has released its “Dog News July 2026,” a regular newsletter for local dog owners. In an announcement on its website, the council said the latest edition is filled with “helpful tips, local updates, and heart-warming stories.”
The release of the newsletter coincides with the annual renewal period for dog registrations. According to the council’s website, all dog registrations are due for renewal in July each year. Renewal forms are sent to the owners of existing registered dogs. Under Tasmania’s Dog Control Act 2000, all dogs over six months of age must be registered with their local council.
Registration fees for the 2025-26 period vary. The council website lists the standard fee for a desexed dog at $42.00, while the fee for an entire (non-desexed) dog is $140.00. Discounts are available for pensioners, and different fees apply for working dogs, guard dogs, and dangerous dogs.
This month’s news for dog owners follows the recent opening of a major new off-lead dog park in Cambridge. In mid-June, the council opened the $1.2 million, 1.5-hectare park as the first stage of the Cambridge Oval Master Plan. A council statement at the time noted the park includes a separate “quiet zone” for timid or older dogs, accessible paths, and play features like logs and rocks.
Clarence is home to more than 9,500 registered dogs, and the council maintains a number of on-lead and off-lead exercise areas across the city. These include off-lead parks at South Street in Bellerive, Anzac Park in Lindisfarne, and Oakdowns Park, among others. Popular beaches like Bellerive, Howrah, and parts of Seven Mile Beach also have designated off-lead times and areas, though some restrictions apply, particularly during summer months.
The council encourages residents to read the latest newsletter for more information relevant to dog owners. The “Dog News July 2026” is available through the City of Clarence website.
