Tasmanian construction company Fairbrother has been named the successful tenderer to build the Tasmania Devils Football Club’s High Performance Centre at the Kingborough Sports Precinct in Kingston. The announcement, made on Monday, August 31, 2026, signifies a significant step forward for the precinct and the new AFL and AFLW club ahead of its 2028 entry into the national competitions.
The state-of-the-art facility, spanning 9,000 square metres, will serve as the home for both the Tasmania Devils’ elite men’s and women’s football programs, alongside the club’s administration staff. It is designed to be one of the premier elite training facilities in the AFL, featuring a large gymnasium, extensive indoor training areas, hydrotherapy and aquatic facilities, rehabilitation rooms, and sports science zones.
The Tasmanian Government is investing $105 million into the centre, which is expected to be completed by mid-2028. Sport Minister Nick Duigan stated that the project is a crucial step for the Devils and will deliver benefits to the community beyond football, creating local jobs and supporting Tasmanian businesses.
Kingborough Council Acting Mayor Christian Street noted that the investment would generate lasting economic activity across the region, from increased visitation to flow-on benefits for local suppliers and service industries.
Tasmania Football Club CEO Brendon Gale highlighted the facility’s importance for accommodating staff, attracting and retaining talent, and providing an elite environment essential for competing in the AFL and AFLW. Fairbrother CEO Kurt Arnold confirmed that the construction would span a 22-month period, averaging around 110 workers on site and peaking at 150, with approximately 30 apprentices involved across various trades.
In addition to the High Performance Centre, the main training oval at the precinct will be redeveloped to match the dimensions of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with this work anticipated to be finished by October 2027. Civil works for Oval 3, which will become the home of the Kingborough Tigers Football Club and a secondary training ground for the Devils, commenced in July 2026 under Batchelor Construction Group.
The broader Kingborough Sports Precinct development involves significant upgrades and changes to existing community facilities. Some areas, including the Kingborough Mountain Bike Park and a dog exercise area, have been temporarily closed or relocated to accommodate the construction, with plans for new or interim facilities in progress.
