One person has died following a serious two-vehicle crash that occurred overnight at Lower Longley, Tasmania Police confirmed in a media release issued on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the Huon Highway at approximately 3:10 pm on Tuesday, 25 August, after reports of a collision involving two vehicles. The incident took place about one kilometre south of the Huon Road intersection.
Initial investigations by Tasmania Police indicate that one of the vehicles involved lost control while navigating a sweeping right-hand bend. Police allege this vehicle then crossed onto the incorrect side of the road, where it collided with an oncoming vehicle.
The driver of the first vehicle became trapped as a result of the impact and sustained critical injuries. Despite receiving extensive emergency medical treatment at the crash site and subsequently being transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital, the driver tragically succumbed to their injuries and passed away at approximately 8:30 pm on Tuesday evening.
The occupants of the second vehicle, which included the driver and two child passengers, were also assessed by emergency services at the scene. They were later transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital, where they received treatment for minor injuries.
Tasmania Police stated that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash are ongoing. A comprehensive report will be prepared for the coroner.
