A former Devonport man has been extradited from Western Australia to face serious assault and child exploitation charges, Tasmania Police said in a statement.
The 31-year-old was extradited from Perth by officers from Tasmania Police’s Western Criminal Investigation Division, arriving back in the state on Friday.
According to the police media release issued Saturday, the man has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm. Police allege this charge relates to a serious assault in Devonport in December 2020.
He has also been charged with the production of child exploitation material. Tasmania Police stated this charge relates to alleged offences that occurred across January and February 2022.
The man has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, according to the police statement.
It is a requirement of law that any person charged with an offence is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty by a court.
