Tasmania Police has charged four people as part of an investigation connected to a search for a person of interest in the Uxbridge area earlier this week.
In a statement released Thursday morning, police confirmed the arrest of the primary person of interest, a 29-year-old man from Blackmans Bay. The arrest was made in the South Hobart area on Wednesday.
Police allege the man has been charged with numerous offences, including several firearms and drug-related matters. The charges also include two counts of burglary, three counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of motor vehicle stealing, seven counts of stealing, three counts of evading police, and seven counts of driving without a licence. He was detained in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Thursday, 9 July.
The search operation began on Monday in the rural Uxbridge area, west of New Norfolk, after an allegedly stolen car was found abandoned.
As part of the continuing investigation, Tasmania Police said three other individuals have also been charged.
A 39-year-old man from Swansea has been charged with two counts of motor vehicle stealing, two counts of driving while disqualified, one count of stealing, and resisting a police officer, according to the statement.
Additionally, police have charged a 25-year-old woman from Geeveston and a 25-year-old woman from Blackmans Bay with one count of motor vehicle stealing each.
Tasmania Police said these three individuals are scheduled to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court in October.
It is a requirement of law that all individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
