Hobart’s Eastern Shore residents are reminded of the ongoing police crackdown on dangerous driving after four vehicles were impounded over the weekend following hooning incidents in North Hobart. Tasmania Police announced on Monday that two vehicles were seized and two others clamped for 28 days as a result of investigations into reckless behaviour reported on Friday afternoon.
Acting Inspector Nick Bowden from Southern Road Policing Services confirmed that a teal Holden Kingswood and a black Ford Falcon were clamped. Additionally, a yellow Holden Monaro and a Mercedes Benz were seized by police over the weekend.
The police action comes after reports of dangerous driving in the North Hobart area. Acting Inspector Bowden stated that “this behaviour was dangerous, irresponsible and unacceptable, and it will not be tolerated.” He further emphasised the risks involved, noting that “not only did those involved put themselves at risk, they also put other road users and members of the public in danger.”
As a result of the investigations, three men are expected to appear in court to face charges related to driving offences, including hooning. Police also intend to apply for the forfeiture of the seized Mercedes Benz, citing alleged previous offending by its owner.
