A George Town woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a firearms burglary in Lilydale that occurred earlier this month.
In a statement released today, Tasmania Police said members of Taskforce Raven arrested the 40-year-old woman following an investigation into the incident. Police allege that two registered firearms and a quantity of power tools were stolen from a property in Lilydale on 20 June.
The total value of the stolen property, including the firearms, is estimated to be more than $2300, according to the police statement. The matter was officially reported to police on 26 June, leading to the woman’s arrest and charging today, Tuesday 30 June.
Tasmania Police have charged the woman with a number of offences. The charges, which police have detailed in their media release, include burglary, stealing, and multiple firearms-related offences. Further charges include evading police under aggravated circumstances, trespass, breach of bail, minor drug possession, and family-violence related offences.
The woman was detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court today.
It is a court that will determine if the woman is guilty or not guilty of the charges. All persons charged with an offence are presumed innocent until found guilty by a court of law.
