A 24-year-old Glenorchy man has been charged with drug trafficking as part of ongoing investigations by the Tasmania Joint Organised Crime Task Force (JOCTF) into the distribution of illicit drugs across the state. The charges stem from a targeted search conducted on August 5 at a residential property in Glenorchy.
Tasmania Police stated that officers from the Tasmania JOCTF, supported by Southern Drugs and Firearms and the Dog Handlers’ Unit, carried out the search. During this operation, police allege that 1kg of methylamphetamine was discovered inside a garage.
Police allege the man was acting as a drug courier. Following the discovery, the man was arrested and subsequently charged with trafficking in a controlled substance. He has since been bailed and is scheduled to reappear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in mid-November.
The Tasmania Joint Organised Crime Task Force (Tas JOCTF) is a multi-agency initiative, comprising members from Tasmania Police, the Australian Federal Police (AFP), and the Australian Border Force (ABF). This recent arrest is part of continuing investigations by these combined law enforcement agencies, which are focused on disrupting the sale and distribution of illicit drugs throughout Tasmania.
It is important to note that a person charged with an offence is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. The legal process will now proceed through the Hobart Magistrates Court.
