According to Tasmania Police, three people have been charged in relation to an aggravated armed robbery at a bottleshop in a Glenorchy shopping centre on Tuesday afternoon. Police will allege that three people entered the store at about 4:00 pm, stole alcohol, and assaulted a staff member. The employee received treatment at the Royal Hobart Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Tasmania Police confirmed that a 19-year-old man from Warrane, a 21-year-old man from Chigwell, and a 17-year-old youth have been charged with aggravated armed robbery. All three have been detained to appear in court on Thursday, 9 July. Police are continuing their investigation.
In other news, ABC News reports on research finding that Melbourne’s medically supervised injecting room in North Richmond has led to a significant and sustained reduction in heroin-related ambulance attendances in the area. A peer-reviewed study found that callouts for ambulances dropped by approximately 71 per cent in the five years after the facility opened in June 2018.
The report, published in the International Journal of Drug Policy, compared ambulance data across Victoria over a nine-year period. Before the injecting room opened, heroin-related ambulance attendances in its vicinity were rising. That trend reversed to a sustained decline after it began operations, providing a supervised health setting and connecting people to health and social support services.
