A Huonville man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a woman at a local residence today, Sunday, 30 August 2026. Tasmania Police confirmed the charge in a media release issued this afternoon.

Police were called to a home on Stride Street, Huonville, at approximately 4:30 am this morning, where they located a woman deceased within the residence. The deceased is believed to be an 85-year-old woman who resided at the address.

Detectives from the South East Criminal Investigation Branch have since charged a 55-year-old Huonville man with murder. The man has been detained and is scheduled to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court tomorrow morning, Monday, 31 August 2026.

Earlier today, Tasmania Police had announced an investigation into the suspicious death, with a man taken into custody to assist with inquiries.
