Kingborough Council has announced a schedule of activities for the upcoming winter school holidays, designed to keep young people active and engaged. The program, aimed at youths aged 12 and over, will run during the school holidays which, according to the Department for Education, Children and Young People, take place from Saturday, 11 July to Sunday, 26 July.
Acting Mayor Christian Street said the program features a variety of options for different interests.
According to a notice from Calvin Christian School, the council’s holiday schedule includes a mix of excursions and workshops hosted at the Kingborough Community Hub. Among the events is a combined TreeClimb and cinema trip, and an outing that includes indoor rock climbing at Rock-it followed by swimming at the Hobart Aquatic Centre.
For those looking to gain practical skills, the program offers a three-day barista bootcamp for ages 14 and up, running from Wednesday, 15 July to Friday, 17 July. Kingborough Council’s website states the course provides a certificate in coffee making. Additionally, a “Customer Service and Workplace Ready Course” is scheduled.
Other activities listed include a “Come and try Pickleball!” session at the Kingborough Sports Centre on Thursday, 16 July, for young people aged 12 to 18. A creative workshop where participants can learn to make sushi and miso soup is also on the agenda.
The council’s Youth Services team is committed to providing support, training, and events for young people in the Kingborough area.
