Kingborough Council’s Winter School Holiday Program has concluded, leaving a positive impact on young people across the municipality. The program, designed to keep youth active and engaged, offered a variety of experiences aimed at fostering new skills and connections within a supportive environment.
Acting Mayor Christian Street highlighted the program’s diverse offerings, which included a visit to the new aerial adventure park, TreeClimb at The Lea. Young participants had the opportunity to test their abilities on thrilling obstacles and ziplines. To ensure accessibility for youth across Kingborough, transport was provided for this activity, with pick-up and drop-off points in Kingston, Blackmans Bay, Margate, Snug, Kettering, and Woodbridge.
Beyond adventure, the program also focused on practical skill development. A new customer service and workplace readiness course was offered for young people aged 14 to 20. Delivered by the Tasmanian Hospitality and Tourism Academy, this hands-on course aimed to build confidence and equip participants with job-ready skills, culminating in a certificate of completion to enhance their CVs and future employment prospects.
Other engaging activities included a barista bootcamp, providing practical skills in coffee making, and a come-and-try pickleball session held at the Kingborough Sports Centre, encouraging physical activity and teamwork. Culinary interests were also catered for with a hands-on sushi and miso soup workshop at the Kingborough Community Hub.
Acting Mayor Street emphasised that the program provided valuable opportunities for young people to try new experiences, build skills, connect with others, and have fun in a safe and supportive setting. The initiative saw young people from various parts of the municipality participate, enjoying the range of activities on offer.
