Kingborough Council has announced a series of events and activities for Seniors Month this October, encouraging residents aged 60 and over to try something new and stay connected within the community. The initiative aims to celebrate the contributions of older Tasmanians and promote active ageing across the region.

According to a statement from Kingborough Council, Acting Mayor Christian Street highlighted the importance of Seniors Month. The Council is inviting eligible residents to participate in various events designed to foster engagement and well-being.

Among the activities planned, Kingborough Council is hosting a Line Dancing session on Friday, October 2. This event will take place from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Kingston Beach Hall, located at 20 Beach Road, Kingston Beach. Participants can join George and Carmen from the Kingston Fun Rockers to learn beginner dance moves. The session, priced at $5, is open to individuals aged 60 and over and is promoted as a fun way to improve fitness, memory, balance, and coordination while making new friends. Attendees are advised to wear comfortable shoes and bring a water bottle.

Another opportunity for seniors to engage is a Laughing Yoga session, scheduled for Tuesday, October 13. This free workshop will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Snug Community Hall on Pybus Street, Snug. The session is specifically designed for seniors aged 60 and above, offering a joyful way to lift spirits through gentle breathing and guided laughter. Kingborough Council states that laughter is a powerful medicine, and this activity aims to provide a simple and enjoyable path to improved well-being.

These events are part of a broader program by Kingborough Council to mark Seniors Month, providing accessible and engaging options for older members of the community. The Council encourages those interested to explore the full calendar of events to find activities that suit their interests and help them connect with others.
