A Golden Valley man has been charged with multiple firearms offences after a targeted police search of a property in the state’s north on Tuesday, 30 June 2026.
Tasmania Police said in a statement that officers from the Northern Drugs and Firearms Unit executed a search warrant at a private address in the rural locality. The operation was supported by members from the Central North Division and the Dog Handler Unit.
During the search, police allege they seized eight firearms. These included four illegal pistols, three of which were described by police as homemade, and four firearms that were registered. A crossbow and a large amount of ammunition were also located and seized from the property, according to the police statement.
Tasmania Police confirmed a 47-year-old man from Golden Valley was arrested at the scene. He has since been charged with several firearms-related offences. The charges, as detailed by police, include dealing in firearms without holding a dealer licence, possessing a firearm without the appropriate licence, possessing an unregistered firearm, and possessing a crossbow.
The man is scheduled to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court in September.
It is a requirement of the law that a person charged with an offence is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
