A man from the Kingston area has died following a single-vehicle crash in Blackmans Bay on Monday morning.
In a media release, Tasmania Police confirmed a man in his late 40s died at the scene on Burwood Drive. The crash occurred at approximately 8:50 am and involved a white Mazda utility.
Police stated the vehicle veered off the road, striking one power pole before continuing on and hitting a second.
A 12-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Tasmania Police said. He was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment and observation.
The impact of the crash brought down power lines, which police noted created a safety hazard and affected some nearby homes.
Tasmania Police said Crash Scene investigators and Forensics officers attended the scene on Monday morning to gather evidence. An investigation into the cause of the crash is now underway and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
Police have called for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the white Mazda utility to contact them on 131 444 or to report anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
