Tasmania Police have taken a vehicle into custody after a series of hooning incidents disturbed residents in the Ravenswood area over recent days. The vehicle, identified as a pink Ford Falcon, was seized yesterday by members of Northern Road Policing Services.
The seizure comes as police investigate several reports of dangerous driving in the bush reserve located directly behind Pioneer Parade. Concerns were raised by members of the public who witnessed individuals, including youths, performing burnouts on the grass in a vehicle described as having no exhaust, which generated significant noise near residential properties.
On Sunday morning, police located the unregistered vehicle abandoned in Ravenswood.
Senior Constable Rockliff from Northern Road Policing Services condemned the behaviour, highlighting it as an example of reckless driving. “Not only did they disturb residences in the area, they also put themselves at risk of serious injury,” Senior Constable Rockliff stated, noting reports of people hanging out of the vehicle’s windows during the incidents.
Police confirmed that the vehicle has been seized under hooning legislation and is likely to be crushed or otherwise disposed of. Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible for the incidents.
