Tasmania Police have launched an investigation into an armed robbery that took place at a business on George Town Road, Newnham, in the vicinity of Parklands Parade, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The incident, which saw a man armed with a hammer threaten an employee before stealing cash, was reported to police shortly before 8:00 PM.
According to a media release from Tasmania Police issued on Saturday, August 29, the male offender entered the petrol station and allegedly threatened a staff member with a hammer. He then stole a quantity of cash before fleeing the scene on foot a short time later. Fortunately, the employee was not physically injured during the robbery.
Police have provided a description of the man they are seeking in connection with the incident. He is described as being of average build. At the time of the robbery, he was reportedly wearing bike gloves, a black puffer jacket, grey shoes, and a black face covering.
Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance and are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed a man matching this description in the George Town Road area between 7:45 PM and 8:15 PM on Tuesday, August 25.
