Tasmania Police have launched an investigation into a structure fire that engulfed two unoccupied conjoined residences on Pekum Crescent, Berriedale, overnight. Emergency services were called to the scene around 8:34 pm on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with the Tasmania Fire Service swiftly bringing the blaze under control.
Preliminary investigations conducted by police have determined the fire was deliberately lit.
Local news outlet Pulse Tasmania initially reported on Thursday night that a weatherboard house at 1 Pekum Crescent was “burning well” upon the arrival of firefighters from Glenorchy, Bridgewater, and Hobart CBD. The blaze was quickly contained to prevent its spread to neighbouring properties, though the house was left charred. Tasmania Police confirmed on Friday, August 21, 2026, that officers remain at the scene conducting further investigations into the incident.
