Tasmania Police have launched an investigation into a series of property damage incidents across North West Tasmania, with authorities believing offenders used slingshots to target homes, businesses, and vehicles. The incidents, which have seen 14 reports of damage, have occurred between Burnie and Wynyard since Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Acting Sergeant Ben Strong confirmed the ongoing investigation in a media release issued by Tasmania Police on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Acting Sergeant Strong stated that police believe “offender/s have used a slingshot to discharge marbles and other projectiles into windows of houses, businesses and vehicles.”
The destruction appears to be random, according to Tasmania Police. Acting Sergeant Strong highlighted the serious nature of the acts, noting there was “potential for harm to have been caused to members of the community through these acts.” He further emphasised the community’s right to safety, stating, “Everyone has the right to be safe in our community, and this dangerous behaviour is concerning.”
Pulse Tasmania reported that the attacks have sparked anger within the local community. An anonymous social media post, cited by Pulse Tasmania, condemned the behaviour as “disgusting, pathetic and completely unacceptable,” and indicated that “Camera footage from multiple properties has already been handed to police, clearly showing the vehicle, make, model and registration.”
Tasmania Police are urging anyone with information, or who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour or possess CCTV footage of affected areas, to come forward.
