According to Tasmania Police, a 56-year-old Sandford man will be summonsed to court for alleged firearm-related offences after a rifle with a silencer was seized from his property. The search was conducted in late 2025 by wildlife rangers from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, with police assistance. The man’s firearms licence has been suspended and all his registered firearms have been seized. Under the Firearms Act, it is an offence to possess a sound suppressor without authority, and a firearm fitted with one is classified as a prohibited firearm.
Clarence City Council has released its Shaping Clifton Beach Engagement Report, which summarises community feedback for a new master plan for the area. According to the council, the report, which was endorsed at the June council meeting, shows that residents want to protect the beach’s natural beauty while making practical improvements for locals and visitors. The engagement process included over 120 survey responses, pop-up events, and stakeholder meetings.

ABC News reports that three people were evacuated from a building in Richmond, Melbourne, after a fire that police are treating as suspicious. Emergency services were called to the blaze on Bridge Road early on Wednesday morning. The fire was contained to the top level of the three-storey building, and two men and a woman were evacuated safely. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
