Works on the Snug Esplanade footpath project have now concluded, delivering a vital upgrade to pedestrian infrastructure in the area. The Kingborough Council announced the completion of the new concrete footpath, which spans the Esplanade between the Channel Highway and Cutana Parade. This development is set to enhance safety and accessibility for residents and visitors alike.

The project addresses a long-standing need by completing a crucial missing link in Snug’s existing footpath network, establishing a continuous and safer route for pedestrians. Kingborough Council’s Acting Mayor Christian Street previously highlighted the importance of the new footpath, stating it would provide a “safer, more accessible connection for people walking through Snug”.

The scope of works involved more than just laying a new path. Significant infrastructure improvements were undertaken, including the installation of brand new stormwater infrastructure to replace existing open drains. The project also incorporated new retaining walls, kerb, and gutters, alongside the concrete footpath itself. These comprehensive upgrades aim to create a more durable and functional pedestrian environment.

Construction for the project commenced on Monday, August 3, with an initial expectation for works to continue over “the next couple of months,” according to Acting Mayor Street. Kingborough Council’s “Current and Upcoming Works” schedule listed the project, “Esplanade (vic2-4) Snug Footpath,” with a timeframe from July 6, 2026, to November 30, 2026, confirming the project’s completion within the anticipated period.

During the construction phase, the Esplanade between the Channel Highway and Cutana Parade was subject to closure to ensure the safety of workers and the public. Motorists were advised by Kingborough Council to use Beach Road as an alternative route and to adhere to all traffic management signage and directions. Acting Mayor Street extended the Council’s gratitude to residents and road users for their patience and cooperation while these “important improvements” were delivered for the Snug community.

The completion of the Snug Esplanade footpath project underscores Kingborough Council’s commitment to improving local infrastructure and fostering more walkable communities. Investments such as this are designed to enhance access to local services, public spaces, and recreational areas, contributing to the overall wellbeing of the Snug community.
