Local government elections are scheduled to take place across all 29 Tasmanian councils in September and October 2026, with voting conducted via postal ballot. While enrolment on the State Electoral Roll automatically includes residents for local government elections where they reside, the General Manager’s Roll caters to specific circumstances.
You may be eligible to be included on a General Manager’s Roll if you own or occupy land in a municipal area different from where you are enrolled on the state electoral roll. This could apply to Eastern Shore residents who own a shack, rental property, or business in the Sorell municipality but live elsewhere. Additionally, a nominated representative of a corporate body that owns or occupies land within the municipal area is also eligible to apply. Some councils also extend eligibility to residents who are not Australian citizens but reside within the municipality.
Unlike voting on the State Roll, which is compulsory for local government elections, voting for those on the General Manager’s Roll is optional. However, enrolment is essential to have your say in who represents the Sorell community.
To enrol on the General Manager’s Roll, eligible individuals or corporate bodies must complete the appropriate enrolment form and submit it to the General Manager of Sorell Council. Forms for owner/occupiers and corporate bodies are available, and the Tasmanian Electoral Commission (TEC) website provides these forms for download. Completed forms can be returned to Sorell Council via email at sorell.council@sorell.tas.gov.au or by contacting the Council Office directly for further information.
