A Spreyton man has been charged with multiple offences following a motorcycle crash in Penguin last month, according to a statement from Tasmania Police.
The incident occurred at about 3:50 pm on Monday, 18 May, when police were called to a single-vehicle crash on Penguin Road, where a motorcycle had crashed on a train line.
Tasmania Police said officers attended the scene and located the 27-year-old rider. Subsequent investigations led police to allege the man was unlicensed and the motorcycle was unregistered.
Police allege a blood test returned a reading of 0.310, which is more than six times the legal limit for alcohol.
In a media release issued today, Wednesday 24 June 2026, Tasmania Police confirmed the man was arrested on a warrant yesterday. He has been charged with exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit, driving while not the holder of a licence, and using an unregistered motor vehicle.
The man was granted bail to appear in court at a later date, Tasmania Police said. He was also issued a Road Safety Disqualification Notice for a 24-month period.
It is important to note that the person charged is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty by a court of law.
Inspector Adam Spencer said the incident involved a number of “dangerous and unlawful decisions”. “The man returned a blood alcohol reading more than six times the legal limit, placing not only himself at significant risk but also anyone else who could have been in the area,” Inspector Spencer said in the police statement.
