A 42-year-old man from St Helens has been charged with multiple burglary offences after Tasmania Police recovered property valued at more than $100,000.
In a media release issued Tuesday, Tasmania Police said officers conducted targeted searches in St Helens last week. During the searches, police seized over 200 items alleged to have been stolen from houses and garages in St Helens, Scamander, Binalong Bay and The Gardens over the last few weeks.
Police allege the recovered property includes power tools, fishing equipment, paintings, digital cameras, antique items and an aluminium dinghy on a trailer.
The St Helens man was charged with aggravated burglary, stealing, and unlawful possession of stolen property, Tasmania Police confirmed. He was bailed to appear in the St Helens Magistrates Court on 2 July. It is important to note that being charged means allegations will be tested before a court, and the man is presumed innocent until found guilty.
Tasmania Police stated that while the majority of the recovered items have been identified for return to their owners, some property remains unidentified. They are urging property owners in the affected areas to check their premises for any signs of a break-in, particularly if they have been away recently.
