A Warrane woman has been charged with a serious driving offence following a crash on Hobart’s Eastern Shore that left a man with serious internal injuries, according to Tasmania Police.
In a media release issued Friday afternoon, police stated that a 26-year-old woman from Warrane was charged with Causing Grievous Bodily Harm by Dangerous Driving. The charge follows an incident on Bounty Street in Warrane at about 1:10 am on Friday, 19 June 2026.
Tasmania Police allege a white Holden Commodore station wagon driven by the woman left the street and crashed through the fence of a residential property. Police further allege the vehicle then reversed back onto the road before driving forward again, striking a man who was standing in the front yard of the property. The vehicle then crashed into the house.
The injured man, a 29-year-old from Warrane, was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious internal injuries and has undergone surgery, Tasmania Police said. No other injuries were reported from the incident.
Investigating officers from the South East CIB charged the woman on Friday afternoon. She was detained in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Saturday, 20 June 2026.
It is important to note that the person charged is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Police have confirmed that the man and woman are known to each other and stated the incident is being investigated as a serious family violence matter. Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
Police have asked anyone with information or CCTV footage of the incident to contact them on 131 444, quoting Offence Report 808542. The original media statement can be found on the Tasmania Police website.
