A multi-vehicle crash in central Launceston has left a pedestrian with serious injuries and caused significant traffic disruptions on Tuesday.
Tasmania Police said in a statement that emergency services were called to Charles Street at approximately 12:34 pm following a collision involving three vehicles and a pedestrian.
According to the police media release, a 65-year-old woman from Youngtown was struck and sustained serious injuries. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Tasmania Police confirmed. Paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she was transported to the Launceston General Hospital for treatment.
Two other people involved in the collision were also taken to the Launceston General Hospital as a precautionary measure, police said.
The incident prompted the closure of a section of Charles Street for around three hours as crash investigation and forensic officers examined the scene. Police thanked motorists for their patience and understanding during the closure.
The cause of the crash is now under investigation.
Tasmania Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with relevant dash cam footage to come forward. They have asked the public to contact police on 131 444 or to provide information anonymously to Crime Stoppers Tasmania, quoting ESCAD number 178:23062026.
