Clarence Plains youth have played a pivotal role in shaping the future upgrades for the popular Social Heart Park, with concept plans for a new multi-sports court now open for wider community feedback. The Clarence City Council announced on Wednesday that young people’s ideas are central to the proposed “tween-focused recreation space” at the park, located near the Clarendon Vale Neighbourhood Centre.
The current skate park and sports court at Social Heart Park are nearing the end of their lifespan, showing significant wear. These will be replaced by a new state-funded multi-sports court, forming part of a broader revitalisation of the area, according to the Clarence City Council. Existing play equipment, the shelter, and landscaping are not included in this specific upgrade project.
To gather initial insights, the Council engaged with students from Bayview High School and John Paul II Primary School, as well as participants from City of Clarence Youth Services in Rokeby. These consultations revealed a desire among young people for social hangout spaces, including hammocks, a multi-sports court, and informal areas where friends can gather. The concept plans aim to deliver a “playful, fun, colourful, social landscape for everyone to enjoy.”
The Clarence City Council is now inviting all residents of Clarendon Vale, Rokeby, and the wider community to review the proposed designs and provide their feedback. The concept plans are available for viewing on the “Your Say Clarence” platform, under the “Social Heart Youth Precinct community engagement” section. This community engagement phase is crucial to ensure the upgrades meet the needs and aspirations of local residents.
